Position Description
Fontaine Modification Company is searching for a Quality Engineer. The position will be based out of its modification facility in Dublin, VA. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the quality of the modifications performed and services provided by this location.
Position Requirements
This position is located in our Charlotte, NC facility and will be responsible for the following job functions:
- Quality Control
- Perform and coordinate inspections and determine the quality levels of the modifications we perform.
- Prepare, document, and execute detailed defect reports.
- Develop, document, and audit best practices, production quality, and metrics reporting.
- Manage quality technicians and their daily job functions
- Ensure any necessary quality control equipment is available, used correctly and properly maintained / calibrated
- Support process engineer(s) with creation and maintenance of work instructions
- Pre-Series Support
- Work directly with the Process Engineer(s) on current and upcoming production programs, developing inspection criteria and quality inspection sheets
- Implement quality inspection sheets into the production process as well as technician verification where applicable
- Assist the Process Engineer(s) in working with equipment manufacturers to provide training (initial and on-going) for items we install
- Implement and manage the First Article Inspection (FAI) process for new production programs
- Production Support
- Work directly with the Operations Manager and Production Manager on current and upcoming production
- Implement and manage the First Time Yield (FTY) process (production quality)
- Implement audit frequencies, based on complexity of build, and First Time Yield (FTY) metrics
- Report OEM quality issues and follow up on root cause and corrective actions
- Work with the team to provide continuous improvement ideas for entire facility
- Work directly with the Fontaine Production staff to ensure there is a thorough understanding of the QA documentation and the expectations
- Manage and implement the Non-Conformance Report (NCR) process, providing root cause analysis, corrective actions, and performance tracking
- Generate weekly performance reports for current production to measure efficiency and defects per line / technician
- Facilitate a monthly Quality Review meeting with the facility management staff to recap and improve our quality performance
- Work with Process Engineer(s) to evaluate all current processes and certify correct training of newly hired employees on equipment, task procedures, work standards, and proper safety procedures; this includes evaluating employees and performing coaching sessions when needed
- Create poka-yokes to minimize the human error in all our
- Work with Process Engineer(s) to maintain visual aids on critical operations
- Facility Support
- Assist the Sr. Operations Manager in implementing a PM schedule for equipment and other serviceable items. Certify all equipment is
- Assist the Sr. Operations Manager on specifying proper PPE to perform quality modifications
- Support the Sr. Operations Manager with all technical support
- Inventory Control Support
- Ensure there is a process implemented for inspecting incoming material for non-conformances. The process needs to include:
- Inspections of incoming material
- Red-tag process for any non-conforming material identified during production and communicating this information to the respective FMC buyer
- Proper routing / return of non-conforming material

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree from Accredited College or University or equivalent experience
- A minimum of (3) years’ experience with commercial vehicle or automotive manufacturing
- A minimum of (3) years’ experience in a quality position
- Be technically conversant with truck terminology
- Able to handle many conversations daily with customers, the OEM, dealers, vendors, and our internal production staff
- Competent use of Office products, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
